Role of Bridesmaids Dresses Meaning of Colours
Assist the Maid of Honour with the planning of the Bridal Shower.
Assist the Bride with errands and addressing invitations.
Participate in all pre-wedding parties.
Arrive at dressing site at least two hours before the wedding.
Walk behind Groomsmen in order of height during the processional, either in pairs or in single file.
Sit next to Groomsmen in the head table. Dance with the Groomsmen and other important guests.
Encourage any single women to participate in bouquet-throwing ceremony.
More often than not these days, Bridesmaids purchase their own dresses.
The Bride and Bridesmaids go together and choose a dress and shoes to everyone's liking and preferably ones than can be worn again after the wedding.
The colour chosen for the Bridesmaids dresses should compliment the colours chosen by the Bride. Never underestimate the importance of selecting the correct colours for your wedding day. In order to achieve a desired effect it is necessary to select base colours, and to build up the tonal palette from there. Remember, everything should be co-ordinated - from the dresses to the flowers to the cake etc. You may well already have an idea what your dream wedding colours will be - they may hold a special meaning to you, or perhaps it will be based around your favourite colour.
There are so many different colours and tones that it would take impossible to list every meaning. Here are some examples of the more traditional colours.
Light Blue - healing, happiness, patience.
Dark Blue - change
Green - fertility, growth, envy.
Orange - energy, stimulation.
Pink - friendship, love.
Purple - healing, meditation, spiritualism.
Red - courage, passion, health, protection.
Yellow - attraction, intellect, study.
White - protection, purification, peace.
Colours are symbolic of both seasons and emotions. The combination of your selected colours will create a certain mood or ambience to your wedding day. Summer Balmy mid-purples, rich peaches, ice whites, baby yellows and pale blues.
Autumn Warming burgundies, claret red, copper, olive green, and dark pink.
Winter Any frosty tone of cream or white; from ivory to pale coffee cream, silvery greys, and icicle blues.
Spring Cool colours in hues of baby pink, rich cream, soft lilac, pale sky blue, mint green, and soft silver tones.
The Maid of Honour's bouquet can be larger or of a different colour to the other Bridesmaids' bouquets.
The Bridesmaids' bouquets should complement the Bridal bouquet and are generally smaller in size. The colour should match the Bridesmaids' dresses and the theme colour of the wedding. Choose a bouquet style that complements the formality of your wedding. If your Bridesmaids are wearing a floral print, select a flower that will complement the print.
To produce an elegant look and in some cases save money, have your attendants carry a singe stemmed rose, lily or other suitable flower.
